On the road

The Middle East's diversity and historical nuance is lost on many Americans, or so thinks one group of artists. In 2014, Culturunners - a loose coalition of artists, filmmakers and journalists from the Middle East - set out on an epic road trip across the USA in a bid to break down barriers through exhibitions, talks and workshops. Crisscrossing the US in a big bus, the nonprofit initiative has racked up more than 20,000 miles and teamed up with artists from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Palestine and Syria, among others. As part of the tour, ten exhibitions on contemporary Saudi art were supported by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture. Here we see some of the art building a bridge to understanding
